Berkhamsted School libraries are welcoming and inspire pupils to appreciate of the world of technology and literacy

Pupils are encouraged to make the most of our resources through formal inductions and information skills classes, and to ask us for help whenever they need it.

The library-led sessions are established within the Key Stage Three curriculum across a number of subjects and build on the core principles and processes of research – identify, search, analyse and evaluate – the fundamental 21st century skills to produce effective lifelong learners.

Reading for pleasure is key to academic success. We have a large collection of fiction and non-fiction books in the library.

Throughout the academic year, the library collaborates with academic departments to organise reading activities and to celebrate events such as European Day of Languages, National Poetry Day and World Book Day. For our younger students, we arrange storyteller and author visits to support the curriculum.

Research Skills and Project Work

The library team collaborate with academic departments to develop students’ research skills through various projects, starting in Year 7 and building on their skills through Years 8 and 9. The libraries provide access to a variety of electronic databases containing reliable and scholarly content on a range of topics to support students with project and course work
